Bamboo Art
Japan’s Bamboo Issues

The rapid expansion of unmanaged bamboo forests throughout Japan is a problem that is having a serious impact on forests, agricultural land, and ecosystems. Bamboo used to be widely used as building material and daily necessities, but the decline in demand and the decline of the forestry industry have led to an increase in the number of neglected bamboo forests. As a result, it has become an environmental and social issue, hindering the growth of native plants, degrading agricultural land, and increasing the risk of landslides.
Artist's Insights
As a Japanese artist with a strong interest in environmental issues, I was inspired to find new value in bamboo by utilizing 100% domestically sourced materials. Bamboo has long been cherished in Japan and serves as a symbol of the country’s cultural and traditional heritage. By integrating its inherent beauty and significance into art, I aim to reintroduce its charm and raise awareness of environmental concerns. With this vision in mind, I embarked on the creation of the following artwork.
